1 VRrHt'+^" ~ U U G~ U U G <br /> 10: 0 541 683 6981 l3LM FU~ DIST OFC _ _ - - <br /> ~ <br /> Release No.:Od-06 <br /> contact: Doug Huntington <br /> 683-6415 <br /> July 24. 2000 <br /> PUBLIC MEETINGS on RECREATION, ACCESS and ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION <br /> The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the City of Eugene's Wetland Program is hosting <br /> two public input 1 issue identification meetings to assist in the development of a Recreation, <br /> Access and Environmental Education Plan for the West Eugene Wetlands. <br /> The meetings are scheduled for: Saturday, August 5`h, from 10:00 AM - 12:00 noon, and <br /> Wednesday, August 9'~, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, at the Amazon Community Center, located at <br /> 2700 Hilyard Street in Eugene. <br /> The purpose of the Recreation, Access and Environmental Education Plan is to determine where <br /> and what types of recreation should be accommodated or improved in the wetlands, and to <br /> determine where and how environmental education opportunities should be developed. The <br /> objective of this Plan is to meet the goals of the recreation portions of the 1992 West Eugene <br /> Wetlands Plan (as amended) and to complete the necessary components of an Environmental <br /> Assessment (EA), which will allow BLM to develop recreation improvements on public lands in <br /> the wetlands area. The West Eugene Wetlands is generally situated in the area between Bailey <br /> Hill Road on the east, Greenhill Road on the west, Royal Avenue on the north and West 11`'' <br /> Avenue on the south. <br /> The public is invited to attend the meetings and provide comments, suggestions, concerns or <br /> other ideas. The meetings will include an presentation on the public review process, and then <br /> each attendee will be provided an opportunity to voice their thoughts or suggestions.
