i _ i ~ ~ ~
i • ~
September 20, 2000
CONTACT: Mark Snyder, Urban Forester, 682-4800
From Public Information Section, 682-5523
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WALKING TOUR ON SUNDAY TO LOOK AT ADAMS STREET TREES
A walking tour of the trees on Adams Street between Third and Sixth avenues will be held
Sunday, September 24. Whiteaker neighborhood residents and others interested in the most recent
information on the Adams Street trees are invited to meet at the corner of Third and Adams at 3 p.m.
The tour is expected to take about two hours to complete.
Among those scheduled to participate in the walking tour are Pete Seda, who is an Ashland
arborist hired as an independent consultant to review the Adams Street trees, and Mark Snyder, the
City of Eugene's urban forester. Citizen members of the ad hoc Adams Street Tree Committee will
also be available to provide information and answer questions.
The Ad Hoc Committee has been working with City's Urban Forestry staff and Eugene
Water and Electric Board to resolve the issues related to the health and condition of 31 trees on
Adams Street. To help determine how best to respond to the trees identified as hazards, the City
agreed to hire an independent consulting arborist to assess the condition of the trees.
On the walking tour, Seda will report on his recommendations for managing tree hazards.
Snyder will discuss EWEB's proposal to underground electric lines on Adams Street and also will
have information about a new tree planting team that has been formed to organize volunteer planting
of over 50 street trees in the Whiteaker area this winter.
For more information, contact Eugene Public Works Maintenance at 682-4800.
I, Public Works • Administration • City of Eugene • 858 Pearl Street • Eugene, OR 97401
Phone: 541 682-5262 • FAX: 541 682-6826 • vvvvva. i. en r.

i ( ) ( ) c eug e o us
