~ _ :~J i ~7 S <br /> September 26, 2000 <br /> CONTACT: BJ McCoy, Churchill High School 687-3425 <br /> From Public Information Section, 682-5523 <br /> FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE <br /> OCTOBER 1 GRAND OPENING CELEBRATES NEW CHURCHILL YOUTH SPORTS PARK <br /> The grand opening of the new Churchill Youth Sports Park will be held Sunday, October 1, from <br /> 3 to 5 p.m. at Churchill High School, 1850 Bailey Hill Road (corner of Bailey Hill and West 18"' Avenue). <br /> Area residents are invited to join in a celebration of community spirit at the new park, which was <br /> built cooperatively by the Eugene School District and the City of Eugene. Approximately $8.6 million <br /> from a school district bond measure and the city's parks and open space bond measure were to fund <br /> construction of three youth sports parks (at Churchill and Sheldon high schools and at Cal Young Middle <br /> School) and install all-weather synthetic turf fields for a variety of school and community team sports at <br /> Churchill, Sheldon, North Eugene-and South Eugene high schools. <br /> In addition to the all-weather field, the sports park at Churchill includes improved soccer and <br /> softball fields, three half-court basketball courts, a skate park, improved tennis courts, children's play <br /> areas, a picnic area, walkways, trees, path lighting, and restrooms. <br /> The October 1 dedication will feature teams from Churchill, Kidsports and local elementary and <br /> middle schools, ahoop-shooting contest, music, the McCornack Unicyclers, clowns and face painting fun, <br /> and a barbecue and other refreshments to benefit the Churchill United Boosters. <br /> The event is co-sponsored by the City of Eugene, School District 4J, and the Churchill Area <br /> Neighbors.
