i iJ _ ~ <br /> / _ <br /> <br /> October 31, 2000 - <br /> <br /> CONTACT: Terry Colvin, Project Manager, 682-5398 <br /> From Public Information Section, 682-5523 <br /> FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE <br /> INFORMATION OFFERED ON PLAN TO WIDEN SECTION OF AMAZON CREEK <br /> Information on the proposed widening of a section of Amazon Creek west of Oak Patch <br /> Road will be available at a public drop-in session on Monday, November 6, from 7 to 9 p.m. at <br /> Churchill High School cafeteria, 1850 Bailey Hill Road. <br /> The City of Eugene is planning to widen the south side of Amazon Creek between Oak <br /> Patch Road and Acorn Park Street. The goals of the project are to widen the creek, create higher <br /> quality wetlands and wildlife habitat, and improve water quality by using natural materials and <br /> established management practices. Other benefits of the proposed project include increased <br /> flood capacity in the creek, better wildlife viewing opportunities, and site enhancements such as <br /> a reconstructed bicycle and pedestrian pathway. Construction tentatively is scheduled for fall <br /> 2001. <br /> The City is encouraging local schools and volunteers to participate in the project.
