Volunteers from the Eugene Tree Foundation, Cub Scout <br /> Troop #177 nd members of the St. Mary Catholic Church youth group have been invited to help <br /> Public Work Maintenance staff plant trees on West 11 `n Avenue and Lincoln Street next to the <br /> church, and n Charnelton, south of West 11 <br /> This eason, volunteers at over a dozen locations throughout the city, including Stream <br /> Team water ay enhancements, have already planted more than 300 trees. At this event, excess <br /> concrete sid~walk will be removed and replaced with trees to further revitalize downtown. <br /> Arbo Day originated in 1872 with J. Sterling Morton of Nebraska. When Morton, a <br /> newspaper e itor, moved to the Nebraska plains from Michigan, he missed his trees.
