~ ~ ~T~t
~
June 7, 2001
CONTACT: Tim Bingham, LCOG Senior Planner, 682-4410
2-PAGE FAX
From Public In ormation Section, 682-5523.
FdR IMMEDI TE RELEASE
PUBLIC WO KSHOP FOCUSES ON DRAFT STREAM CORRIDOR ACQUISITION STUDY
A draft'~study that recommends strategies for acquiring at-risk stream corridors in
i
Eugene will be the topic of a public workshop on Thursday, June 14, from 4 to 8 p.m. at St.
Mary's Parish enter, 1062 Charnelton Street. A formal presentation on the draft study will be
made at 6 p.m~, and City staff will be available to answer questions and take comments
throughout the workshop.
The dr ft stream corridor acquisition study was prepared at the request of the Eugene
City Council in response to community concerns that additional efforts should be made to help
protect water uality and related natural resources within Eugene's system of open waterways.
I
The study foc Ises on at-risk stream corridors, which are waterways with relatively high natural
resource valu s located in undeveloped or partially developed areas that are most vulnerable to
impacts from ew development.
The st Idy recommends acquiring nine acquisition sites totaling 34.6 acres (2.7 miles of
stream length) over the next year at an estimated cost of $1.2 million to $1.3 million, plus an
additional 144. acres (7.8 miles of stream length) over the next five years at an estimated cost
of $4.8 million o $6 million. Funding for the recommended acquisitions would come from
system develo ment charges paid when property is developed and from proposed monthly
stormwater fe increases of 54 cents for residential customers and 19 cents per 1,000 square
feet of impervi us surface area for commercial, industrial, and multi-family customers.

j ublic Works • Administration • City of Eugene • 858 Pearl Street • Eugene, OR 97401
Phone: (541) 682-5262 • FAX: (541) 682-6826 • www.ci.eugene.or.us
