Date: June 13, 2001
Media ontact Only: Mike Wellington 682-2370
LCARA Starts
Two Wheel Park Patrols
Startin on 06/16/01 Lane County Animal Regulation Authority officers
will be atrolling Eugene City parks on bicycles.
Due to continuing public complaints, LCAR.A and Eugene City Parks have
agreed hat a different approach to the problem may be the best solution.
LCA program Manager Mike Wellington and Tim Rhay Eugene Parks
Mainte ance Manager have developed an Animal Control Park Patrol
progra .The patrols will consist of two officer teams on bicycles patrolling
bike paths, hiking trails and parking areas. During this time of the year
complaints start flooding into the agencies concerning dogs at large,
aggress ve dogs, dog fights and dog bites. In the past, LCARA patrolled with
small t cks along the paths. These vehicles are limited to areas they can

r patrol. his new program gives officers full access to all park areas; it is
more a ergy efficient and environmentally friendly. All dogs in the City of
Eugene must be leashed and display a Lane County License. There are
designated areas where dogs may be off leash but must still display a current
license. For photo op, or further information please contact Mike
Wellin ton.
i
i
