Mayor Torrey will be walking to school with students and parents <br /> <br /> ~I~ from Hillside E ementary School, and City Councilor Nancy Nathanson will be walking to school <br /> <br /> ~,I <br /> with the students and parents from McCornack Elementary School. <br /> <br /> i <br /> Walk t School Day highlights a new project at the Center for Appropriate Transport <br /> (CAT) called S fe Routes to School. The CAT has been working with Adams/Hillside, <br /> <br /> ~'~I McCornack, P tterson/Family, and Cal Young school families to reduce their need to drive <br /> <br /> 'I children to sch ol. They offer a program at each school to help parents or neighborhood adults <br /> band together o accompany a group of neighboring children on their walk or bicycle ride to <br /> <br /> Ili school. The c ildren gain exercise, and are fresh and alert at school, while their parents can <br /> share the resp nsibility with other parents or neighborhood adults to get the children safely to <br /> <br /> I <br /> <br /> ~'I school without aving to drive them.
