~ ~ ~ ~ <br /> October 3, 20 1 <br /> CONTACT: ichael Robert, Head Gazdener, 682-5324 <br /> From Public I ormation Section, 682-2739 <br /> FOR IMME IATE RELEASE <br /> NATI E PLANT WORKSHOP AT HENDRICKS PARK OCTOBER 20TH <br /> Hendr cks Park's gardeners will present a workshop on "Native Plant Alternatives for <br /> Landscaping" on Saturday, October 20 from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon in the Wilkins Shelter in <br /> Hendricks P k. The workshop is free and open to the public. No reservations are necessary. As <br /> <br /> part of an eff rt to restore native plant communities in Hendricks Park and surrounding areas, the <br /> park's staff h launched an educational campaign about forest management including printing <br /> and distribute n of brochures about native plants and forest stewardship. <br /> Many people have asked for additional, practical information about native plants which <br /> will be prove ed at this workshop. Topics will include identification of problem weeds and <br /> methods of r moval, identification of valuable native plants and understanding native plants in <br /> appropriate s tes and dynamic communities. We'll also discuss appreciating the value of native <br /> landscapes part of an healthy ecosystem and provide practical gardening tips on planting and <br /> re-introduce g native plants into residential landscapes.
