i
I
~ I® r ~.:.;a rte':
anuary 10, 2002
I ONTACT: Richard Zucker, Leaf Program Manager, 682-4800
rom Public Information Section, Kim Mast 682-5548
OR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Euge a Leaf Collection 2001-02 Complete
Eugen 's leaf collection program is over for the season. With the final pickup of
leaves n north Eugene, Public Works crews have collected over 18,000 cubic
I yards f leaves this season, which is less than last year. This is due, in part, to
the ne curbside yard debris program.
Whene er possible, collection trucks delivered clean leaves to people who
~ reques ed them for mulch or compost material. Unfortunately, many leaves
were n t suitable for delivery as leaves must be free of garden and yard debris.
All the aves that weren't delivered were recycled by the city.
No ne leaf piles should be placed in the streets. Residents are now
respon ible for removing leaves and other debris left in the streets in front of
their h mes and businesses. In most, if not all cases, the piles that remain are
those t at were inaccessible because of parked cars. Remaining leaves may
be co posted at home or taken to local recycling facilities. Residents may also
want t contact their solid waste hauler for information on yard debris pickup.
As alw ys, be sure to keep sidewalks free of leaves, which are slippery when
wet an hazardous for pedestrians.
Form a information about leaf recycling or the leaf collection schedule, call
the Ci of Eugene leaf hotline at 682-5383 or visit the City of Eugene's home
page o the Internet at www.ci.eugene.or.us.

i
bflc Works • Administration • City of Eugene • 858 Pearl Street-• Eugene, OR 97401
Phone: (541) 682-5262 • FAX: (541) 682-6826 • www.ci.eugene.or.us
