The immediate focus is to remove trees from <br /> streets and to get all traffic signals back in service. <br /> The Public Works Emergency Command Center (ECC) was activated shortly before 5 <br /> p.m. on Th rsday and is expected to remain open for several days to deal with the large volume <br /> of storm-rel ted calls and work orders. As of 8 a.m. today, the ECC has received about 500 <br /> phone calls elating to an estimated 300 to 350 down trees. <br /> Cre s worked through the night to deal with the most serious problems. Most major <br /> <br /> ~r streets were reopened by this morning, but numerous local streets remain blocked. The Owen <br /> cherry tree ppears to be undamaged. In Hendricks Park, initial reports indicated 18 trees were <br /> down, road ys were clear, and no park structures were damaged. Alton Baker and Skinner <br /> Butte parks ere badly hit, with numerous trees down. Crews are in those parks clearing the <br /> i <br /> bike paths a d assessing damage to park structures. <br /> As of Friday morning, seven crews are deployed on tree clean-ups. One crew is <br /> assigned to erial operations using the department's urban forestry boom truck, and the other <br /> crews are cle ring debris from the streets and bike baths with chain saws, loaders, and dump <br /> trucks. Woo -cutting permits are being issued at the Maintenance Yard, 1820 Roosevelt <br /> Boulevard, fo citizens wishing to cut firewood from the trees removed from public property. <br /> Public Works crews are clearing only trees on public property. If citizens have down <br /> trees or susp cted tree hazards on private property, they should call a tree service.
