~i
PRESS RELEASE
Date: Ap '129, 2002
For immed'ate release:
~ The Eugen Airport has reinstated use of all parking areas following today's announcement by
the Transp rtation Safety Administration (TSA) that the Eugene Airport would be relieved of the
300' parki restriction adjacent to the terminal building.
Over the p st several months, congressional representatives, airport managers, and airport
profession 1 organizations have lobbied for a more reasonable approach to some of the increased
security m asures at airports following the events of September 11`h. The FAA had initially
instituted a 300' rule regarding restricted parking adjacent to an airport terminal building. The
TSA has re iewed the parking rule and it has been determined that assessments of individual
airports ba ed on size and the possibility of local threats to security would be the basis for
establishin parking restrictions at airports across the United States.
The Eugen Airport short-term parking lot will be reconfigured to its design prior to September
11`", addin back almost 200 short-term parking spaces that have been inaccessible for over six
months. A the same time, the long term parking lot will also be returned to its original
configurati n. These changes will allow additional short term parking for people who are
dropping o fand/or picking up passengers, and also provides some positive news for airport
tenants wh rely on this area to conduct business with their customers.
At this tim ,enforcement of the front curb parking restrictions remains the same, as it is still
designated s a loading and unloading area only. This means that no unattended vehicles are
allowed on the curb and unattended vehicles will continue to be subject to ticketing and/or
towing.
From the Desk of:
Diana Bell
Eugene Airport
682-8351 (voice)
682-6838 (fax)
