<br /> t <br /> - > ~ ~ ' ~ <br /> May 31, 2 02 <br /> CONTAC Dave Reinhard, Transportation Engineer, 682-5233 <br /> Russ Mecredy, Project Manager, 682-6024 <br /> From Publi Information Section, 682-5523 . <br /> FOR IMM DIATE RELEASE <br /> PRELI (NARY MASTER SITE PLAN FOR EUGENE DEPOT TO BE UNVEILED JUNE 6 <br /> Th preliminary master site plan for the planned rehabilitation of the historic Eugene <br /> train statio will be unveiled at a public meeting on Thursday, June 6, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. in the <br /> Sloat Roo on the first floor of the Atrium, 99 West 10th Avenue. <br /> Th meeting of the North End Scoping Group is open to the public and will include a <br /> consultant' presentation from 4 to 5 p.m. and a period from 5 to 5:30 when interested citizens <br /> can view a d comment on specific aspects of the master plan, including traffic circulation, <br /> parking, a historic and open space features. <br /> I <br /> Pla Wing efforts began several years ago on a project to rehabilitate the train station at <br /> the south nd of Willamette Street and create amulti-modal "Eugene Depot" to serve the <br /> ~ increasing umber of people using the improved passenger rail services in the Pacific <br /> Northwest igh-speed rail corridor. The plan as currently envisioned also includes the <br /> possibility f locating Greyhound bus service to the depot area, as well as improved facilities for <br /> ~ pedestrian ,cyclists, and motorists. <br /> Th preliminary master site plan offers an overall concept for the depot area. <br /> Subseque t steps in the project include final acquisition of the train station property, which <br /> currently is in private ownership, and the actual construction work needed to repair and <br /> rehabilitate the 95-year-old station building. In all, the planning, acquisition, and rehabilitation <br /> work is ex cted to cost about $5 million, with construction scheduled to be completed in 2004. <br /> i <br /> The North End Scoping Group includes more than a dozen local elected officials and <br /> citizens int rested in the future of the north end of downtown Eugene. The group produced a <br /> final report n 1999 that included a number of recommendations related to the train station.
