From Public nformation Section, 682-5523 <br /> FOR IMME ATE RELEASE <br /> WORK STA TS MONDAY ON TRAFFIC SIGNAL PROJECT AT WILLAMETTE AND CREST <br /> Cons ruction is scheduled to begin Monday, June 10, on a project to install a traffic <br /> signal and ake other safety improvements to the intersection of Willamette Street and Crest <br /> ~ Drive in sou Eugene. <br /> The affic signal will allow protected left turns for northbound Willamette traffic onto <br /> westbound rest and a create a new right-turn lane southbound traffic on Willamette at Crest, <br /> making thos turns safer due to limited sight distance at that location. Pedestrian and bicycle <br /> safety will b enhanced by signalized crosswalks and curb and striping adjustments to slow <br /> traffic turnin off Willamette onto Crest. <br /> The roject also includes installing new sidewalk access ramps and making storm <br /> drainage im rovements. Existing storm drainage "bubblers" that spill water onto Willamette and <br /> i <br /> Crest will b replaced with underground pipes that tie into the main drainage system in that <br /> area, and a in-line water quality system will be constructed to help filter out sediments and <br /> i <br /> other pollut nts from stormwater runoff. <br /> <br /> i <br /> The sidewalks, stormwater enhancements and other subsurface work are scheduled to <br /> be complet d by late July. The schedule calls for the traffic signal poles to be set in August and <br /> for the new signal to be operational by Labor Day. <br /> Kip o Inc. of Eugene is the general contractor on the $315,000 Eugene Public Works <br /> project, wh' his funded by stormwater user fees and transportation system development <br /> charges. <br /> Mot rists and cyclists are advised to use alternate routes to avoid lane closures, <br /> flaggers, a d construction delays, particularly during June and July.
