> > ~ ~ ~ <br /> July 2, 200 <br /> CONTACT Sharlett Rice, Project Manager, 682-5585 <br /> Paul Klope, Principal Engineer, 682-5246 <br /> i <br /> From Publi Information Section, 682-5523 <br /> FOR IMM DIATE RELEASE <br /> DETE (ORATED SECTION OF RIVER ROAD TO GET OVERLAY STARTING JULY 7 <br /> Re airs to a badly deteriorated one-mile section of River Road from Azalea Street to <br /> Maxwell R ad are scheduled to start Sunday night, July 7, and run through the end of August. <br /> Thi particular section of roadway is one of the highest priorities on the City's repair <br /> schedule b cause it will soon require a very costly reconstruction unless the surface is repaired. <br /> Total estim ted cost for the repair project is approximately $980,000. The primary source of <br /> project fun ing is the reimbursement component of the transportation system development <br /> I <br /> charge rec ntly approved by the Eugene City Council. Wildish Construction is the general <br /> contractor r the project, which is designed and managed by the Eugene Public Works <br /> Engineerin Division. <br /> The repair work involves grinding off the top layer of deteriorated paving and applying a <br /> new surfac of asphaltic concrete. There will be some excavation In localized areas where the <br /> subsurface has failed or where underground stormwater and wastewater repairs are needed. <br /> Minor chan es will be made to the median islands and lane configurations in the vicinity of the <br /> I <br /> River Road Beltline interchange to improve safety for motorists and bicyclists. <br /> Mu h of the work will be done at night, from 7:30 p.m. to 6 a.m., to minimize travel <br /> I <br /> disruptions. Every effort will be made to have all lanes open from 6 to 9 a.m. and from 3:30 to <br /> i <br /> ' 7:30 p.m., nd local access to businesses and homes will be maintained at all times. Motorists <br /> ~ are encour ged to use alternate routes to avoid delays.
