These partnerships have proven to be beneficial not only to the youth <br /> in these pr rams but also to parks maintenance and wetlands staff. In recognition of their <br /> significant ntributions to the restoration and maintenance of west Eugene wetlands, <br /> Northwest Y uth Carps (NYC) and Lane Metro Youth Corps will receive the Wetland Executive <br /> Team's ann al award this Friday, July 26, at 1 p.m. in building 2 north conference room, 1820 <br /> . Roosevelt B ulevard. The Wetland Executive Team is the policy-making branch of the wetland <br /> manageme collaboration between the City of Eugene, The Nature Conservancy, Bureau of <br /> Land Marra ement (BLM), Army Corps of Engineers, and Oregon Youth Conservation Corps <br /> (OYCC). <br /> Yout crews are involved in many aspects of natural resource management, including <br /> habitat man Bement, invasive vegetation control, and trail work. Eugene residents will see <br /> evidence of heir work across the city. Past projects include: <br /> • ins Nation of turtle basking logs in the lower Amazon Creek; <br /> • rem val of invasive plants, such as Scotch broom from the south face of Skinner Butte <br /> and hilamut Natural Area of Alton Baker Park, blackberry vines from Ascot Park and <br /> Mo a Ranch Park and English ivy from Hendricks Park; <br /> • mai tenance and upgrading of the Ridgeline Trail; and <br /> • sofa 'zation of invasive grass populations at wetland restoration sites in west Eugene. <br /> (Sol rization is the process of covering weed populations with clear plastic in order to <br /> coo them in the hot summer sun as an alternative to using pesticides.) <br /> <br />
