Community members are welcome to help NeighborWoods and ETF <br /> volunteers p nt 25 new trees at the downtown site. <br /> The urpose of the Trees for Concrete program is to create a more livable and green <br /> downtown a vironment by excavating planting spaces and planting trees and flowers in portions <br /> I, of concxete idewalks in Eugene's urban core. The current site was identified by Urban Forestry <br /> II and ETF s because it would provide a more appealing and gentle transition between a <br /> residential a a with many trees and the downtown commensal area. Area businesses, property <br /> owners and sidents made the effort possible by supporting the project. <br /> Last ear's Trees for Concrete project at 3`~ and Lawrence received a statewide award <br /> for the best ivic organization project from Oregon Community Trees, the state urban forestry <br /> wuncil, at t air annual conference in early March. In addition to enhancing the beauty of the <br /> I'~~ area, creati g more natural areas in densely developed urban areas improves water quality by <br /> reducing st rmwater run-off into rivers and streams.
