The media is invited to participate in the training and <br /> interview the mediators-in-training from 2 to 2:30 p.m. on Monday or observe mediators in <br /> action on the playground any day of the week. Please call the school inadvance to arrange a visit. <br /> The rogram is part of the Seeds of Peace initiative started by Family School parents and <br /> community ediators Therese Picado and Betsy Ruth in spring 1999. This is the sixth cohort of <br /> students tr ' ed at the school. The program has been established at three other area schools as <br /> well. <br /> The rogram involves atwo-day training in the spring, one-day refresher training in the <br /> fall, and w kly meetings, trainings and evaluations throughout the academic year. The training <br /> involves tea hing the children problem-solving skills, such as arrive listening, paraphrasing, and <br /> the brainsto g and evaluation of solutions, through cooperative games, discussion, role plays <br /> and other a ereises. These skills are then applied on the playground and in the classroom as they <br /> help fellow udents in conflict identify their feelings, better understand the problem by heating <br /> different pe spectives and generate creative, nonviolent solutions to their problems.
