The Lecture will be held on Monday, May 12, at 7 p.m. in the Tykeson <br /> i <br /> Room at the ugene Public Library. <br /> Schat who recently completed her master's thesis on bio-control of purple loosestrife at <br /> Oregon Stat University, will identify common invasive plants, give strategies for controlling <br /> these plants, and discuss why it is important to control invasive plants. Purple loosestrife is a <br /> classic exa ple of an aggressively invasive plant, which has escaped from gardens and <br /> j adversely a ected the natural ecosystem. <br /> i <br /> ~ Upc ming lectures in the series include Birds of Hendricks Park with Dan Gleason on <br /> I <br /> I July 14 and isorest Ecology with Alan Dickman on September 15. All events are free and open <br /> to the publi . <br /> Th purpose of the Friends of Hendricks Park is to raise awareness of Hendricks Park <br /> I as a valua le community and regional resource, provide stewardship in the management of the <br /> park, edu to the public about issues that affect the park, and generate a broad base of <br /> j <br /> j communi support for the park.
