Picado, public information specialist, Parks and Open Space, 682-4814 <br /> FOR IMMEDI TE RELEASE <br /> CITY ORDIN NCE REQUIRES PROPERTY OWNERS TO CUT TALL GRASS AND WEEDS <br /> Due to a mild winter; the grass is growing "like wildfire," and, unfortunately, it could <br /> cause just tha .According to City of Eugene code, property owners are required to trim <br /> overgrown, or "nuisance," vegetation on their property to prevent fire and traffic hazards. The <br /> following con itions require trimming' <br /> • Grass nd weeds over 10 inches <br /> • Trees nd shrubs that obstruct streets, alleys, and sidewalks <br /> • Black erry vines that extend into a public right-of-way or cross property lines <br /> II Any v getation that obstructs motorists' visibility <br /> Accor ing to the City's Vegetation Program Manager Eric Cariaga, the growing season <br /> ~ this year is p rticularly intense. "We're two weeks ahead with inspections of hazardous <br /> vegetation co ditions and we're identifying many more issues than in previous years at this <br /> time," says C riaga. <br /> II The ity requests the cooperation of property owners in monitoring and maintaining <br /> vegetation o both undeveloped and developed property. Property owners are notified through <br /> ~ newspaper a vertisements and/or by letter. If the problem persists, the City may correct tall <br /> grass and w eds on undeveloped property any time between June 15 and September 30 <br /> without furth r notice. For problems on developed property, the property owner will be noted <br /> by letter any ime during the year and given 10 days to correct the violation.
