The results wilt help Hendricks Park staff determine the best way to control the <br /> i <br /> spread of inv save species in the park. <br /> The students have been working with park staff since last fall, researching a variety <br /> of methods f r controlling aggressive, non-native plants, such as English ivy and Herb Robert, <br /> which threat n the biodiversity of Hendricks Park. The effectiveness of four treatments- <br /> burning, mul hing, hand-pulling; and a combination of mulching and burning-were tested on <br /> several test lots. In the follow-up phase of the project, the university students enlisted the help <br /> ~ of high scho 1 students to help them count all the re-growth that has occurred on the test plots <br /> since the tr tments were applied several weeks ago. <br /> The O Environmental Studies Service Learning Program creates student-oriented <br /> research a service projects that directly benefit the Eugene-Springfield wmmunity.
