- - ~ v
May 29, 20 3
CONTACT: Fred McVey, Engineering Data Services Manager, 682-5216
From Publi Information Section, 682-5523
FOR IMME IATE RELEASE
City Seeks Comments on Proposed Increase in stormwater Rates
The City of Eugene is seeking public comment on proposed adjustments to local
stormwater rates.
The City of Eugene is proposing a rate increase in monthly stormwater fees of
approximat ly 7 percent beginning July 1 to help fund the stream corridor acquisition program.
The fee for a typical residential customer, whose home is between 1,000 and 3,000 square feet,
will increas by 50 cents per month. Customers in the small residential category will see a 31-
cent increa a in their monthly bills, and fees in other categories will increase by 17 cents per
1,000 squa a feet of impervious area.
Thi is the first increase in Eugene's stormwater rates since 1994. The City Council in
October 20 1 authorized the fee increase to protect local water quality by purchasing high
priority stre m corridors. Well-managed stream corridors store and convey runoff during
storms, re late water temperature, provide habitat for native plants and wildlife, enhance
filtration, re lenish ground water and offer opportunities for recreation and education.
A p blic hearing on the proposed rate adjustments will be held Friday, June 13,
beginning t noon in the Les Lyle Conference Room of the Public Works Building, 858 Pearl
Street. Wrtten comments may be submitted to the City Manager, 777 Pearl Street, Eugene,
OR 97401 up to 5 p.m. on June 12, or at the public hearing. For more information, call the City
of Eugene ublic Works Department at 682-5291, or on the Internet at
www.ci.eu ene.or.us/pw/fees.
~
P blic Works • Administration • City of Eugene • 858 Pearl Street • Eugene, OR 97401
Phone: (541 j 682-5262 • FAX: (541 j 682-6826 • www.ci.eugene.or.us
I
