Funding for the
pavement p eservation program is coming primarily from a new local gas tax and a monthly
transportati n system maintenance fee approved by the Eugene City Council last winter. The 3-
cent-per-ga Ion local gas tax is scheduled to take effect later this summer. The monthly
transportati n fee is still being developed and is anticipated to take effect this fall.
The ouncil approved the local gas tax and monthly fee in response to a $93 million

I'i, backlog of treet repair projects. The work scheduled to be done this summer will begin to reverse
that trend, ut it will take a number of years before the backlog is significantly reduced. The asset
value of Eu ene's transportation system is conservatively estimated at more than $500 million.
Pu lic Works • Administration • City of Eugene • 858 Pearl Street • Eugene, OR 97401
Phone: (541) 682-5262 • FAX: (541) 682-6826 • www.ci.eugene.or.us
