The project includes building traffic islands

ICI on Polk Str et between 24th and 28th avenues and on 24th Avenue between Fillmore and

I~~ Friendly St eets, installing four traffic circles at various locations, and constructing speed humps
on Taylor, yler and Adams streets between 28th and 24th avenues. Work is scheduled to be

I, substantial) completed by late August.
The City initiated the traffic-calming project after several meetings with residents in the

~,I neighborho d. The design is similar to the safety improvements made in 2001 in the area of
33~d Avenu east of Donald Street. Neighborhoods throughout Eugene have made requests for
speed hum s, traffic islands and other traffic-calming features designed to slow down vehicles

III on local str ets and create safer facilities for pedestrians and cyclists. The Public Works

i
Departmen prioritizes requests based on availability of funding and severity of safety issues.
Loc I access will be maintained during construction. However, motorists may encounter

III delays and etours and are encouraged to use alternate routes when possible. Updated
information about this and other area road projects is available on the City of Eugene's traffic
relief hotlin , 984-8484, or on the Internet at www.ci.eugene.or.us/pw/traffic.
?
Pu lic Works • Administration • City of Eugene • 858 Pearl Street • Eugene, OR 97401
Phone: (541) 682-5262 • FAX: (541) 682-6826 • www.ci.eugene.or.us
