NEWS RELEASE -DELTA PONDS PROJECT MOVES FORWARD <br /> JULY 18, 2003 <br /> PAGE 2 <br /> "We are very pleased to be able to make this fascinating waterway available or public ~i <br /> enjoyment and at the same time help preserve the natural beauty of the area," said enate <br /> Tilson. <br /> I <br /> Six local Rotary clubs -Eugene Emerald, Metropolitan, Eugene Mid-Valley, ugene <br /> Airport, Eugene Southtowne, and Eugene Delta have stepped up to help construe a path <br /> connection from Goodpasture Island Road to Dedrick Slough. <br /> The bulk of the project is being funded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to restore <br /> aquatic habitat and make recreational improvements in the Delta Ponds, a 144-acr ecosystem <br /> of ponds, channels and wetlands owned by the City of Eugene and Lane County a! ng a stretch; <br /> of the Willamette River just downstream from Valley River Center. The Corps is in t e process <br /> of developing the plans and specifications for the construction project. Invasive sp ies <br /> removal and plant salvage work is expected to begin this fall.
