<br /> • t t <br /> _ ~ ~ ,xs ~ <br /> July 30, 200 <br /> CONTACT: Mark Schoening, City Engineer, 682-5291 <br /> 2-PAGE F <br /> From Public nformation Section, 682-5523 <br /> FOR lMME IATE RELEASE <br /> New Local Gas Tax Helps Fund Road Repairs in Eugene <br /> Wor is scheduled to begin August 6 on a series of projects to repair Eugene's streets. <br /> The projects are funded in part by the City's new local gas tax, which goes into effect August 1. <br /> The avement preservation work will start on Echo Hollow Road between Royal Avenue <br /> and Dove L ne and on West 18th Avenue between Bailey Hill Road and Josh Street. Eugene <br /> Sand 8~ Gra el is scheduled to have the work substantially completed before the start of school <br /> in early Sep ember. <br /> In lat August, the work will shift to 29th Avenue between Willamette and Washington <br /> streets and ~Oth Avenue from Hilyard to Agate streets. Eugene Sand & Gravel anticipates <br /> having thos~ projects wrapped up by late September, before the start of classes at Lane <br /> Community ollege. <br /> Yet nother project will focus on Cal Young Road from Willagillespie to Coburg Road <br /> and Gilham',Road from Cal Young Road to Winona Drive. That work is scheduled to be <br /> substantiall}~ completed bymid-October. <br /> On uesday, August 5, bids will be opened for repairs to Amazon Parkway from 29th <br /> Avenue to ilyard Street. <br /> Fina ly, paving repairs are scheduled on three sections of the Ruth Bascom Riverside <br /> Trail Syste .That work wiH occur later this fall, contingent on funding availability. <br /> For he most part, the paving work will consist of grinding off the top layer of deteriorated <br /> paving and pplying a new surface, or overlay, of asphaltic concrete. Generally, at least one <br /> lane of traffic will remain open in each direction, with traffic controlled by flaggers during daytime <br /> constructiorh hours.
