August 4, 003
CONTAC7~: Terry Colvin, Project Manager, 692-5398
From Publi Information Section, 682-5523
FOR IMM DIATE RELEASE
Work Starts On Tugman Creek Stormwater Proiect
Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, August 4, on a project to resolve flooding
issues andll~~restore natural amenities to a portion of Tugman Creek.

~ Eu ene's Public Works Engineering Division designed the project to realign and add
meanders o the existing channeled stream through the westernmost portion of Tugman Park
near 36th Avenue and Hilyard Street. This will lengthen the stream, reducing flooding and
extending seasonal use of the open play field in the park. Stream banks will be stabilized with
native veg tation to improve water quality and natural habitat in the stream corridor. New
sidewalks ,ill be constructed to further enhance this area of the park. Once construction is
completed,',there will be opportunities for volunteers to plant vegetation and make other
interesting enhancements along the stream.
Storjmwater user fees will fund the $300,000 project, which is scheduled to be completed
in October.'i Wildish Construction is the general contractor on the job, which originally had been
scheduled fbr last fall but was delayed due to weather.
Duri~g construction, the work zone will be fenced off. Signs will be placed to direct
cyclists, pedestrians, and other park users around the construction area.
