Work will focus on trail maintenance and forest restoration, as volunteers
spread grav~l, remove invasive plants and free the trees of English ivy. All volunteers are invited
to meet at tF~e F.M. Wilkins Shelter on Summit Avenue at 9:30 a.m. for pastries and coffee
courtesy of ugene City Bakery and the Friends of Hendricks Park before the work begins.
Muc of the trail was completed on May 31 during a project coordinated by REI, the
Friends of H ndricks Park and park staff. The oak knoll area is a remnant of oak woodland
habitat that nce encompassed much of the Willamette Valley, but is now very rare and
considered ~lobally endangered. A wealth of native plant species live in the understory of this
highly sensi ve ecosystem. Every effort is being made to protect this sensitive plant community
during trail a d habitat restoration work.
Tool will be provided, and work clothes and shoes, such as long-sleeved shirts, long
pants and st rdy shoes or boots, are recommended. The project is part of the implementation of
the Hendric Park Forest Management Plan, which, through partnerships with the community
such as the riends of the Hendricks Park and other volunteers, seeks to achieve a healthy,
resilient and sustainable forest. For more information, call 682-5324, 607-4066 or visit
www.friendsdfhendrickspark.org.
I'
