I' <br /> August 13,12003 <br /> CONTACT: Steve Gallup, Project Manager, 682-8460 <br /> ~i John Bonham, Project Inspector, 682-6231 <br /> From Publi Information Section, 682-5523 <br /> FOR IMM DIATE RELEASE <br /> I <br /> Sewer Repair Work Starts Monday, August 18, in Valley River Area <br /> Wok is scheduled to begin Monday, August 18, on a $1 million Eugene Public Works <br /> project to irnprove the wastewater system in the Valley River area. <br /> i <br /> Th~ work includes installing a new sewer main line on Goodpasture Island Road from <br /> Valley Rivq~lr Drive north about 2,000 feet (just past the car dealerships), decommissioning a <br /> wastewate ~ pump station at the corner of Valley River Drive and Goodpasture Island Road, and <br /> installing a other main line in a portion of the Valley River Center parking lot, through the <br /> intersectio of Valley River Drive and Valley River Way, and along the west side of Delta <br /> Highway. <br /> The' work is to needed to replace old pipe that is damaged and leaking. It also will result <br /> in energy swings by eliminating sewage pumps and replacing them with agravity-flow system. <br /> Wil~ish Construction Company is the general contractor for the project, which is funded <br /> by wastewi~ter user fees and wastewater systems development charges. The contractor's <br /> schedule ells for the work to be substantially completed by late October. <br /> To inimize disruption in the commercial shopping area, much of the construction will be <br /> done at nig t. This includes the work in the Valley River Center parking lot and through the <br /> busy intersection of Valley River Drive and Valley River Way. The work in Goodpasture Island <br /> Road will b~ done during the daytime. Local access to all area businesses will be provided, and <br /> at least one lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained.
