~ ~ ,o v
August 211 2003
CONTAC~: Seward Meintsma, Project Manager, 682-5560
From Publ c Information Section, 682-5523
FOR IMM DIATE RELEASE
Paving Preservation Work Shifts to Streets in Southeast Eugene
Wo k continues on a series of projects designed to repair city streets and preserve the
investmeni~ Eugene has made over the years in its local transportation system.
Paving is substantially completed on Echo Hollow Road from Dove Lane to Royal Avenue
and is sch duled to wrap up next week on 18`n Avenue between Bailey Hill Road and Josh Street.
Th focus now shifts to southeast Eugene, where work is beginning on overlays to 29tH
Avenue fro Willamette Street to Lorane Highway, 30`n Avenue from Agate Street to Hilyard
Street, and Amazon Parkway from 29tH Avenue to Hilyard Street.
Pav ng projects are also planned this fall in north Eugene, on Cal Young Road from Coburg
Road to Wi lagillespie and on Gilham Road from Beltline to Cal Young Road.
The work typically involves grinding off the existing asphalt surface, adjusting utilities and
making mi r repairs to the road bed, and repaving the street with asphaltic concrete. Lane
detours an delays are likely in work zones during daytime construction hours, and motorists are
advised to se alternate routes. Information about specific work zones and traffic detours and
delays is a ailable on the City of Eugene's traffic relief hotline, 984-8484, and on the Internet at
www.ci.eug ne.or/pw/traffic.
Tot I cost of this year's repaving work is approximately $3 million. Funding for the
pavement eservation program is coming primarily from a new local gas tax that went into effect
August 1.
