Picado, Parks and Open Space Public Information Specialist, 682-4814 or <br /> 68 -4800, therese.m.aicadoCcDci.eugene.or.us <br /> FOR IMM DIATE RELEASE <br /> LOCAL ORKSHOP EXAMINES COMMUNITY STEWARDSHIP, ECOSYSTEM REPAIR <br /> AND ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION IN URBAN AREAS <br /> Ed cators, restoration practitioners, natural resource managers, urban and park <br /> planners, udents, community organizers, and others interested in building a stronger <br /> community and protecting the natural environment in urban areas, especially in the Willamette <br /> Valley, are invited to participate in "Mending Natural Systems in our Cities," a workshop <br /> sponsored y the City of Eugene Parks and Open Space Division and Friends of Hendricks <br /> Park Octo r 9 and 10. The workshop features three keynote speakers: Dr. Robin Kimmerer, <br /> author of fhering Moss: A Natural and Cultural History of Mosses; Bruce Newhouse, <br /> President the Native Plant Society of Oregon; and Jan Vandertuin, President and co-founder <br /> of the Ne rk Charter School. The speakers provide the springboard for a series of dialogues <br /> about com unity stewardship, ecosystem repair and environmental education. The workshop, <br /> which will t ke place at Northwest Youth Corps, 2621 Augusta Street in Eugene, also includes <br /> poster sess ons, networking opportunities and display areas for commercial vendors and non- <br /> profit organ ations. <br /> Cos of the workshop is $50 and includes an opening reception and lunch featuring <br /> locally gro ,organic foods prepared by Ibrahim Hamide, owner of Cafe Soriah.
