TE RELEASE HENDRICKS PARK IN NEED OF WEEDING THIS WINTER Now i the time, while the soil is wet, to lend a hand and help weed the Hendricks Park ~ forest at the st of four, winter volunteer work days this Saturday, November 15, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Rai or shine, volunteers will continue to help rid the forest floor of English ivy and control the sp ead of Herb Robert, commonly referred to as "Stinky Bob," from park roadsides and trails. Int rested volunteers are asked to meet at the F.M. Wilkins Shelter on Summit I Avenue at 9: 0 a.m. to enjoy pastries, coffee and juice courtesy of the Eugene City Bakery and i the Friends o Hendricks Park before heading to the forest and trails. Volun ears will be instructed in techniques for removing non-native, invasive plants while protecting th native plants of the forest. Ridding the forest of invasive weeds is one of the main objectives of he Hendricks Park Forest Management Plan. By removing the ivy and other invasive plan ,the native species have a better opportunity to reproduce and flourish in the forest. Over a course of the past two years, volunteers, contractors and park staff have cleared ivy fr m about 10 acres of the park's forest. Follow up removal of re-sprouted roots is essential for aintaining the cleared areas. Tools nd equipment will be provided, and work clothes, rain gear and shoes, such as long-sleeved hirts, long pants and sturdy shoes or boots, are recommended.
