TE RELEASE <br /> HENDRICKS PARK IN NEED OF WEEDING THIS WINTER <br /> Now i the time, while the soil is wet, to lend a hand and help weed the Hendricks Park <br /> ~ forest at the st of four, winter volunteer work days this Saturday, November 15, from 9:30 a.m. <br /> to 1 p.m. Rai or shine, volunteers will continue to help rid the forest floor of English ivy and <br /> control the sp ead of Herb Robert, commonly referred to as "Stinky Bob," from park roadsides <br /> and trails. Int rested volunteers are asked to meet at the F.M. Wilkins Shelter on Summit <br /> I <br /> Avenue at 9: 0 a.m. to enjoy pastries, coffee and juice courtesy of the Eugene City Bakery and <br /> i <br /> the Friends o Hendricks Park before heading to the forest and trails. <br /> Volun ears will be instructed in techniques for removing non-native, invasive plants while <br /> protecting th native plants of the forest. Ridding the forest of invasive weeds is one of the main <br /> objectives of he Hendricks Park Forest Management Plan. By removing the ivy and other <br /> invasive plan ,the native species have a better opportunity to reproduce and flourish in the <br /> forest. Over a course of the past two years, volunteers, contractors and park staff have <br /> cleared ivy fr m about 10 acres of the park's forest. Follow up removal of re-sprouted roots is <br /> essential for aintaining the cleared areas. <br /> Tools nd equipment will be provided, and work clothes, rain gear and shoes, such as <br /> long-sleeved hirts, long pants and sturdy shoes or boots, are recommended. Three additional <br /> volunteer wor parties are scheduled on Saturdays throughout the winter-Dec. 13, Jan. 10 and <br /> Feb. 14, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, call ~=5324, 607-4066 or visit <br /> .friendso endridcs ark.or . <br /> <br />
