Fund d by the 1998 Parks and Open Space bond measure, the new park, with its wide <br /> variety of a tive and leisure activities, is drawing throngs of children and adults alike. <br /> Th new playground features a sand play area and modern play equipment, including a <br /> climbing w II, swings, spring toys, and interactive water fountain (water is tamed off during the <br /> winter). Ne rby, an informal basketball court can double as a place to hold neighborhood <br /> ~ events, as ell. Paths curve gently through the park, providing a key bicycle route and helping <br /> i <br /> ~ to reconne the neighborhood with new crosswalks to the Oakway Center, while asoft-surface <br /> jogging/wa king trail takes park users on a winding, quarter-mile loop through the meadows. <br /> Surrounde by restored native oak savannah prairie, the park is an oasis of green, with more <br /> than 150 n w trees, plus large, open lawn areas and a series of rolling hills for frolic, picnicking <br /> and sunba hing. <br /> Jus in White, who lives in the neighborhood, is very excited about the addition to the <br /> neighborh od. "I'm so glad a park was built instead of another housing development," says <br /> White, wh recently became a father. "It was a flat field; now it has rolling hills and trees and it's <br /> set up to pl y. It makes you want to run into the park and play, and I'm 30 years old!" <br /> Th park design is based on input gathered by parks staff from neighbors at a series of <br /> public wo shops held in winter and spring 2002.
