During <br /> i <br /> the second r und, leaves on unimproved streets, which are not normally collected during the first <br /> round, will b collected. <br /> ~ The nnual program, which has been available to Eugene citizens since the late 1960s, <br /> offers reside is leaf pickup and delivery services. The program was originally implemented to <br /> prevent stye t flooding caused by clogged gutters, catch basins, and storm drains. The program <br /> now collects and recycles leaves by delivering them to residents, the City's community gardens and <br /> community roups such as Food for Lane County, and commercial recyclers, who use them as <br /> mulch or co post. <br /> i <br /> Aso December 8, crews have collected 5,233 cubic yards of leaves, of which 2,370 cubic <br /> ~ yards have een delivered to property owners, 1,946 cubic yards have been delivered to the <br /> J community ardens, and the remaining leaves have been delivered to commercial recyclers or <br /> recycled for se in City parks. <br /> Resi ents are asked to pile leaves in the street away from parked cars so staff can easily <br /> pick up the files. Place leaves at least a foot from the curb to avoid clogged storm drains. Piles <br /> need to be f ee of other yard debris so they can be delivered to people who have requested leaves <br /> from their g rdens. Leaf piles must not block bike or traffic lanes. Leaves should be put in the street <br /> the weeken prior to collection. Leaves will be collected according to the following schedule: <br /> j December 15 -19 North Eugene <br /> f <br /> December 22 - 26 Central Eugene <br /> December 29 -January 2 Southeast Eugene <br /> January 5 - 9 Southwest Eugene <br /> January 12 - 16 West Eugene <br /> To r quest leaf delivery, call 682-4800.
