f <br /> <br /> O1/"2~/04 THU 16:5 FAX 541 682 4882 EUGENE PW MNTNC & POS PW ADMIN 0001 <br /> i <br /> i <br /> ~ r .s <br /> January 22, 004 <br /> CONTACT: <br /> • Troy Kr er, coordinator, Volunteers in Parks, 682-4845 or 953-2388 <br /> • Therese Picado, public information speaalist, Parks and Open Space, 682-4814/682-4800 <br /> FOR IMME IATE RELEASE <br /> Delta Rotarians to Finish Work at Rose Garden this Saturday <br /> On aturday, January 24, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., volunteers from the Delta Rotary Club, <br /> in conjuncti n with Eugene Volunteers in Parks staff, will reconvene at Owen Rose Garden to <br /> put the finis ing touches on the gazebo they dedicated in May of last year and assemble and <br /> install save I benches that were purchased by donors who helped fund the gazebo and other <br /> improveme t projects at the garden. <br /> In rtnership with the City's Parks and Open Space Division, the rotarians raised <br /> funds, pur ased and constructed a gazebo in just over a year, The gazebo is a 28-foot <br /> hexagonal tructure with an open clearstory that allows plenty of light to filter, as well as cool <br /> breezes to ow, through the structure and is wheelchair accessible by way of a concrete and <br /> brick wal y. Since its dedication last May, the gazebo has already become a popular site for <br /> weddings a d other family gatherings. <br /> Sin the group adopted Owen Rose Garden as a community service project in 1999, <br /> members h ve donated more than 2,500 hours of planning, coordination and physical labor to <br /> ~ the beautil9 tion of the ,public garden next to the Willamette River. In addition to constructing <br /> the new ga ebo, Delta~rotarians, in conjunction with City parks staff, have decorated the garden <br /> with trellise and constructed rose bed borders, a paver pathway and a large pergola to adorn <br /> the walkw with climbing roses. <br /> To urchase a personalized brick, slate tiles, bench, or planter in the garden, call 682- <br /> , 4907.
