Interested volunteers a e asked to meet at the F.M. Wilkins Shelter on Summit Avenue at 9:30 a.m. to enjoy pastri s, coffee and juice courtesy of the Eugene City Bakery and the Friends of Hendricks rk before heading to the forest and trails. Volu tears will be instructed in techniques for removing non-native, invasive plants while protecting t e native plants of the forest. Ridding the forest of invasive weeds is one of the main objectives f the Hendricks Park Forest Management Plan. By removing the ivy and other invasive pl nts, the native species have a better opportunity to reproduce and flourish in the forest. Ov r the past two years, volunteers, contractors and park staff have cleared ivy from about 10 a res of the park's forest. Following up with removal of re-sprouted roots through these sub uent volunteer work parties is essential for maintaining the cleared areas.
