Peter DeFazio (D-Springfield), Ranking Democrat on the House <br /> viation Subco 'ttee, today praised the news that Delta Airlines is introducing new service from <br /> ene. <br /> "I am extra ly pleased that Delta has recognized the wealth of opportunity in the Eugene- <br /> pringfield said DeFazio. "There is great demand with both business and leisure travelers that <br /> ther airlines ha a largely ignored. I welcome Delta to the community and look forward to working <br /> 'th them in the years to c•,ome. This will bring much-needed economic stimulus not only to the <br /> ugene-Sprin ld area, but to all of Southwest Oregon." <br /> DeFazio worked with the City of Eugene for several years to help attract additional airline <br /> 'ce to the co unity. DeFazio has written letters and met with airline executives urging them to <br /> new service in Eugene. Delta expressed interest in adding service from Eugene to Salt Lake City, <br /> tah in early 20 1, but the September 11 terrorist attacks shelved expansion plans. Now, three years <br /> ter, DeFazio ' extremely pleased that Delta is introducing 2 daily flights from Eugene to Salt Lake <br /> ity. <br /> In addition o his work to increase air service, Rep. DeFazio has secured funding for improvements <br /> the Eugene rt, which helped make service to the community more attractive to the airlines. <br /> vlost rec:endy, Fazio secured $3 million in the Fiscal Year 2004 Consolidated Appropriations bill to <br /> i <br /> x/23/04 <br /> <br />
