03/03/04 WED 20:08 .FAX 541 682 4882 EUGENE PW MNTNC & P05 PW ADMIN
I~ooi
~ .i ! I?
March 4, 2004
CONTACT:
¦ Carrie Peterson, Park Development Coordinator, 682-4907
¦ Therese Picado, Parks and Open Space Public Information Specialist, 682-4814/682-4800
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Community Invited to Help Shape the Future of the
Parks, Recreation and Open Space in their Neighborhood
People from every neighborhood in Eugene are invited to give their input about what
kinds of parks, open space and recreational opportunities they want in their neighborhood at a
forum on Saturday, April 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Churchill High School. The community
forum is part of the Eugene Parks, Recreation and Open Space Comprehensive Plan, a process
that has already involved nearly 3,000 Eugene residents in envisioning our community's parks,
recreation and open space services for the next 20 years. Based on the input from the first
phase of public involvement, action priorities were identified last fall, and, now, City parks and
recreation staff and the 13-member mayor's committee need more feedback from the
community about how to implement these priorities.
The forum will provide participants with an overview of the comprehensive planning
process and a facilitated process designed at eliciting neighborhood-specific input about
planning, acquiring and/or developing new parks, trails, recreational facilities and programming,
and open space areas. Some of the specific questions that will be addressed include:
¦ What natural areas need to be protected or enhanced?
¦ Are you within walking distance of parks and open space?
¦ What kinds of recreational opportunities do you think your neighbofiood needs?
¦ Which parks in your area are most in need of improvement?
Recreational programming will be available for children in the school cafeteria and light
breakfast and lunch will be provided for all. For more information o~ to give input, call 682-4907
or visit www.ci.euaene.or.us/parks/pros/pros 1.htm.
