Rain or shine, <br /> volunteers ill continue to help control the spread of Herb Robert and nipplewort, two invasive, <br /> non-native eeds, from park roadsides and trails. Interested volunteers are asked to meet at the <br /> F.M. Wilkin Shelter at 2200 Summit Avenue at 9:30 a.m. to enjoy pastries, coffee and juice <br /> courtesy of he Eugene City Bakery and the Friends of Hendricks Park before heading to the <br /> forest and ails. <br /> Vol nteers will be instructed in techniques for removing non-native, invasive plants while <br /> protecting t e native plants of the forest. Ridding the forest of invasive weeds is one of the main <br /> objectives f the Hendricks Park Forest Management Plan. By removing the ivy and other <br /> invasive pl nts, the native species have a better opportunity to reproduce and flourish in the <br /> forest. Ov r the past three years, volunteers, contractors and park staff have cleared ivy from <br /> about 16 a res of the park's forest. Following up with removal of secondary invasive plants, <br /> such as H rb Robert and nipplewort, is essential for maintaining the work that has been <br /> accomplis ed. <br /> F <br /> To Is and equipment will be provided, and long-sleeved shirts, long pants and sturdy <br /> shoes orb ots are recommended.
