Rain or shine, volunteers ill continue to help control the spread of Herb Robert and nipplewort, two invasive, non-native eeds, from park roadsides and trails. Interested volunteers are asked to meet at the F.M. Wilkin Shelter at 2200 Summit Avenue at 9:30 a.m. to enjoy pastries, coffee and juice courtesy of he Eugene City Bakery and the Friends of Hendricks Park before heading to the forest and ails. Vol nteers will be instructed in techniques for removing non-native, invasive plants while protecting t e native plants of the forest. Ridding the forest of invasive weeds is one of the main objectives f the Hendricks Park Forest Management Plan. By removing the ivy and other invasive pl nts, the native species have a better opportunity to reproduce and flourish in the forest. Ov r the past three years, volunteers, contractors and park staff have cleared ivy from about 16 a res of the park's forest. Following up with removal of secondary invasive plants, such as H rb Robert and nipplewort, is essential for maintaining the work that has been accomplis ed.
