04/14/04 WED 10:59 FAX 541 682 4882 EUGENE PW MNTNC & POS PW ADMIN 1001
I r •
April 14, 2004
CONTACT:
¦ John Weber, Parks and Open Space Planner, 682-4908
¦ Therese Picado, Parks and Open Space Public Infom~ation Specialist, 682-4814 or 682-
4800
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Candl®Iight Park Neighbors Invited to Qive Input to Development Plans for the Park
Neighbors of all ages are invited to preview and discuss the draft development plan for
Candlelight Park, an 11.2-acre, undeveloped neighborhood park located north of Royal Avenue
and west of Candlelight. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, April 14, from 7 to 9 p.m.
at Petersen Bam, 870 Bertzen in the Bethel area.
The draft plan was developed based on input gathered from residents at the initial public
workshop held last October. The plan reflects the following key input:
• maintain a dog off-leash area on part of the park
• enhance a small open watennray that runs diagonally through the park site. This
waterway is part of a larger system that is being enhanced, the Greenhill Tributary.
• plant native vegetation and create wildlife habitat
• create walking and jogging trails, a playground, picnic shelter, and space for
neighborhood gatherings
• maintain the feeling of openness in the park
The park, which is surrounded by a new subdivision under construction and older, established
neighborhoods, currently consists of a large, open field with an open drainage way running
through it. The field has been used informally as an off-leash dog area since 1991.
Construction of the park is anticipated to start in 2005. Improvements will be funded in
part by the parks and open space bond measure voters approved in 1998. To see the draft plan
or summary of the first workshop, visit www.ci.eugene.or.us/PARKS/candlelight/index.htm.
