The work area includes Garden Way from Sisters View Avenue to Martin <br /> Luther King r. Boulevard, and on the north side of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard from <br /> Marche Cha a Drive to i-5. <br /> Wildi h Construction of Eugene is the general contractor on the project, which is <br /> designed an managed by the Eugene Public Works Department. The project includes building <br /> a new street with landscaped medians, accommodations for bicycles, curb and gutter, <br /> sidewalks, s reet lights, street trees, traffic calming and wastewater and storm drainage <br /> systems. In ddition, a new traffic signa! will be installed at the intersection of Garden Way and <br /> Martin Luth r King Jr. Boulevard. <br /> Duri g construction, the section of Garden Way from Commons Drive to Martin Luther <br /> King Jr. Bou evard will be closed to through traffic, and the section of the bike path form Sisters <br /> View to Ma in Luther King Jr. Boulevard will be closed. Motorists should use alternate routes <br /> when possi le. Local traffic and bicyclists will be directed to detour routes while sections of the <br /> road and bi a path are closed. <br /> Are utilities began preliminary work on the project in February to expedite the <br /> constructio schedule. Plans call for construction to be substantially completed by early <br /> September, in time for the first Oregon home football game. Some work will continue until mid- <br /> October, in luding building sidewalk south of Commons Drive, erecting new street lights and <br /> signal poles, and planting landscape materials. <br /> Fun ing for the $3.7 million project comes primarily from the Oregon Department of <br /> Transportat on, local systems development charges, and assessments to benefiting property <br /> owners.
