On May 15 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.,
the volunteer corps will remove blackberry canes and roots in an area where this threatened
speaes of turtle dig their nests and lay their eggs. Interested community members are welcome
to join the UO students and Stream Team volunteers in the effort, which will take place at the
ponds along the bike path. Volunteers will meet at 10 a.m. near the Greenway Bike Bridge in
the parking lot behind Valley River Center and walk to the project site along the ponds.
Tools, gloves and snacks will be provided by Stream Team. Stream Team provides the
opportunity for members of the community, from elementary-age children to college students to
older adults, to do hands-on environmental work, restoring and caring for the city's waterways
and natural areas. For more information about this and other upcoming projects and trainings,
call 682-4850.
