May 14, 20 4 <br /> CONTACT Eric Jones, Public Affairs Manager, (541) 682-5523 <br /> From Publi Information Section, 682-5523 or 954-2938 <br /> FOR IMME LATE RELEASE <br /> P blic Invited to City of Eugene Public Works Open House May 20 <br /> On hursday, May 20, from 7:45 a.m. to 3 p.m., the public is invited to visit the <br /> Eugene Pu lic Works yard at 1820 Roosevelt Boulevard to learn about the <br /> departmen 's programs and services. Guided tours are available. More than 1,000 <br /> school chil ren and hundreds of teachers, parents and adult chaperones have signed <br /> up to atten . <br /> The heme of this year's open house is "I Dig Eugene Public Works." Specifically <br /> designed t teach children about Public Works maintenance, stormwater, parks, <br /> wastewate ,airport, and engineering activities, most of the hands-on exhibits are part of <br /> I <br /> one of the ollowing theme areas: <br /> • Tin Town, a simulated road system that teaches about the city's transportation <br /> syst m and traffic safety <br /> • Tin Park, an interactive park experience that includes a mini playground, tree <br /> stu ps for climbing, water insects in Petri dishes, an area for digging for bugs, <br /> and visits with Nearby Nature critters in costume <br /> • Wa r World, an exploration of water systems, habitat and cycles <br /> • The Equipment Rodeo, mowers, tractors, ditch excavator, backhoe, aerial boom <br /> <br /> s <br /> truc ,street sweeper, and other Public Works equipment on display <br /> Oth r activities include a trailer ride through the Public Works' "back yard" and a <br /> mock cons ruction zone; group photos on a manhole cover; "The Hole Story," where <br /> children wi I patch potholes with PlayDoh; a presentation about the air traffic control <br /> tower; and a play model of an airport. <br /> ~ For more information, call 682-5523. <br /> Publi Works • Administration • City of Eugene • 858 Pearl Street • Eugene, OR 97401 <br /> Phone: (541)682-5262 • FAX: (541) 682-6826 • www.ci.eugene.or.us <br /> <br />
