Guided tours are available. More than 1,000 school chil ren and hundreds of teachers, parents and adult chaperones have signed up to atten . The heme of this year's open house is "I Dig Eugene Public Works." Specifically designed t teach children about Public Works maintenance, stormwater, parks, wastewate ,airport, and engineering activities, most of the hands-on exhibits are part of I one of the ollowing theme areas: • Tin Town, a simulated road system that teaches about the city's transportation syst m and traffic safety • Tin Park, an interactive park experience that includes a mini playground, tree stu ps for climbing, water insects in Petri dishes, an area for digging for bugs, and visits with Nearby Nature critters in costume • Wa r World, an exploration of water systems, habitat and cycles • The Equipment Rodeo, mowers, tractors, ditch excavator, backhoe, aerial boom s truc ,street sweeper, and other Public Works equipment on display Oth r activities include a trailer ride through the Public Works' "back yard" and a mock cons ruction zone; group photos on a manhole cover; "The Hole Story," where children wi I patch potholes with PlayDoh; a presentation about the air traffic control tower; and a play model of an airport. ~ For more information, call 682-5523.
