Guided tours are available. More than 1,000 <br /> school children and hundreds of teachers, parents and adult chaperones have signed <br /> up to attend. <br /> The theme of this year's open house is "I Dig Eugene Public Works." Specifically <br /> designed to teach children about Public Works maintenance, stormwater, parks, <br /> wastewater, airport, and engineering activities, most of the hands-on exhibits are part of <br /> one of the following theme areas: <br /> • Tiny Town, a simulated road system that teaches about the city's transportation <br /> system and traffic safety <br /> • Tiny Park, an interactive park experience that includes a mini playground, tree <br /> stumps for climbing, water insects in Petri dishes, an area for digging for bugs, <br /> and visits with Nearby Nature critters in costume <br /> • Wafer World, an exploration of water systems, habitat and cycles <br /> • The Equipment Rodeo, mowers, tractors, ditch excavator, backhoe, aerial boom <br /> truck, street sweeper, and other Public Works equipment on display <br /> Other activities include a trailer ride through the Public Works' "back yard" and a <br /> mock construction zone; group photos on a manhole cover; "The Hole Story," where <br /> children will patch potholes with PlayDoh; a presentation about the air traffic control <br /> tower; and a play model of an airport. <br /> For more information, call 682-5523. ~ <br /> Public Works • Administration • Cily of Eugene •858 Pearl Street • Eugene, OR 97401 <br /> Phone: (541)682-5282 • FAX: (541)682-6826 • www.d.eugene.or.us <br /> <br />
