The training will be led by Kat Beale, an Army <br /> orps of Engine rs biologist, and take place at the Army Corps of Engineers site, just off Clear Lake Road. <br /> fter completing today's training, this cadre of volunteers will begin scouting for nests at Delta Ponds every <br /> ay next week. The information will be used to determine where turtles are nesting in this urban natural <br /> rea and help p otect nests from common predators such as fax, raccoons and dogs. Western pond turtles <br /> re about 13 ye rs old before they begin reproduction. When small, they are eaten by non-native bullfrogs <br /> r nd large moot bass. <br /> This eff rt to protect and enhance the westem pond turtle's nesting habitat is part of a larger <br /> estoration proj ct underway at Delta Ponds by the City of Euoene, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and <br /> Bureau of Lan Management. Stream Team volunteers have teen working to improve habitat at Delta <br /> Ponds for nea y a decade through monitoring, educational and hands-on projects.
