The <br /> ~ lunteer group comprised of members of First United Methodist Church, will learn about the history and <br /> coiogy of Ste art Ponds/Bertelsen Nature Complex, the site the group has agreed to monitor and care for <br /> on a long-term asis, and the area's habitat management plan. After a brief lecture about the West Eugene <br /> Wetlands, the roup will head into the ponds for some hands-on plant identification and a visit to the area's <br /> native ash gro e. <br /> Loma aldwin, coordinator of Stream Team, hopes that aver time the group will be collecting seeds <br /> <br /> i <br /> and taking cu ings, growing them out in the program's native plant nursery, and using them to replant areas <br /> that have bee cleared of invasive species. "It promises to be a great adoption and perhaps the first one to <br /> actively use t e native plant nursery to do the full circle of restora~fion," says Baldwin. <br /> The a option group calls themselves the Creation Care Committee/Riparian Redeemers. Stream <br /> Team provid s the opportunity for members of the community, from elementary-age children to college <br /> students to v der adults, to do hands-on environmental work, restoring and caring for the city's waterways <br /> and natural reas.
