This effort will promote the regeneration of wildflowers by helping <br /> c~ntrol the spree of herb Robert and nipplewort, two invasive, non-native weeds, from roadsides and trails. <br /> a bonus at the end of the work party, volunteers will have the opportunity to sow native camas seed, <br /> b th in the park's native plant nursery and the oak knoll area. Interested volunteers are asked to meet at the <br /> F M. Wilkins Shel er at 2200 Summit Avenue at 9:30 a.m. to enjoy pastries, coffee and juice courtesy of the <br /> E gene City Bak ry and the Friends of Hendricks Park before heading to the forest and trails. <br /> Voluntee will be instructed in techniques for removing non-native, invasive plants while protecting <br /> I <br /> t e native plants f the forest. Ridding the forest of invasive weeds is one of the main objectives of the <br /> H ndricks Park F rest Management Pian. By removing the ivy and other invasive plants, the native species <br /> h ve a better op rtunity to reproduce and flourish in the forest. Over the past three years, volunteers, <br /> contractors and rk staff have cleared ivy from about 16 acres of the park's forest. Following up with <br /> r moval of secon ary invasive plants, such as Herb Robert and nipplewort, is essential for maintaining the <br /> rk that has be n accomplished. <br /> Tools and equipment will be provided, and long-sleeved shirts, long pants and sturdy shoes or boots <br /> are recommende .For more information, call 682-5324, 607-4066 or visit www.friendsofhendrickspark.org. <br /> <br />
