August 26, 2 04 <br /> j CONTACT: Teri Higgins, Project Manager, 541-682-8462 <br /> From Public nformation Section, 682-5523 or 954-2938 <br /> FOR IMMED ATE RELEASE <br /> Willame a To Be Closed at 18th Avenue for Two Nights As Paving Repairs Continue <br /> Willa ette Street is scheduled to be closed to through traffic at 18th Avenue for two <br /> nights as str et repair work continues. <br /> From 7 p.m. Monday, August 30, to 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 31, and from 7 p.m. <br /> Tuesday to :30 a.m. Wednesday, Willamette Street will be closed at 18th Avenue, and 18th <br /> Avenue will a restricted to one lane with flaggers directing traffic. The closures are necessary <br /> for the stree project contractor, Eugene Sand & Gravel, to repair the damaged subsurface in <br /> the intersect on and prepare it for paving. <br /> The 600,000 Willamette Street repair project is part of Eugene's pavement preservation <br /> program, w 'ch is funded in part by Eugene's local fuel tax. While the focus of the work is <br /> pavement p eservation other improvements, such as lighting, traffic signal and pedestrian <br /> crossing im rovements, will be made during construction. <br /> The ain paving phase is scheduled to begin mid-September and will consist of grinding <br /> off the existi g surface and applying a new asphalt surface. <br /> The final phase in early October will be the restriping of Willamette Street to <br /> accommod to two-way traffic between 13th and 18th avenues. All work is scheduled to be <br /> completed ymid-October. <br /> Duri g construction, access will be provided to homes and businesses in the work zone. <br /> However, t rough traffic is encouraged to use alternate routes such as Oak and Pearl Street to <br /> avoid delay .For current information on this and other area road projects, call the Metro <br /> Roadwork otline at 984-8484, or on the web at www.ci.eugene.or.us/pw/traffic.
