The <br /> v lunteer group, mprised of members of First United Methodist Church, has agreed to monitor and care <br /> f the natural a a on a long-term basis and, ~ during this first work effort, will focus on the site's native ash <br /> g ove at the no h side of Stewart Pond, near 5~' and Wallis. Under the guidance of Stream Team <br /> ordinator Lor Baldavin, the volunteers, who were recently briefed about the area's history, ecology and <br /> bitat manag nt plan in a two-part orientation program, will begin removing invasive species such as <br /> tackberry and t istle iA preparation for planting. <br /> Baldwin opes !that over time the group will be collecting seeds and taking cuttings, growing them <br /> ut in the prog m's native plant nursery, and using them to replant areas that have been deared of <br /> nvasive specie . °It promises to be a great adoption and pefiaps the first one to actively use the native <br /> lant nursery to do the~full circle of restoration," says Baldwin. <br /> The ad ption group calls themselves the Creation Care Committee/Riparian Redeemers. Stream <br /> (Team provides the opportunity for members of the community, from elementary-age children to college <br /> students to old r adult, to do hands-on environmental work, restoring and caring for the city's waterways <br /> and natural ar as.
