Wilkins Sh Iter, had been completed and will be dedicated in a private ceremony on Monday,
eptember 27. he media is invited to join Jerry Blakely, park benefactor; Jin Chen, noted landscape
architect for the roject; Ginny Aifriend, Hendricks Park Head Gardener; and Robin Hostick, City of Eugene
i
ark planner, at p.m. far tea and moon cakes on the deck. The shelter and deck are located at 2200
ummit Avenue.
The dec is called "Moon Terrace" because it is shaped like a crescent and positioned to view the
oon as it rises ver thei horizon. The Moon Terrace lies in the heart of the Native Plant Garden at
endricks Park. he garden, which was dedicated in May 2002, was designed to inspire a better knowledge
nd appreciation of the native plants of the southern Willamette Valley. The Moon Terrace makes the
arden more in ing, acQessible and informative by enticing people to enjoy the view of the garden, learn
ore about the arden ~ the informational sign and map adjacent to the deco, and perhaps explore the
arden further o the walking paths that can be seen below and learn even more about the use of native
lants in a varle of garden styles. Many plants will eventually be labeled in the garden beds as well.
An adde benefitfof the Moon Terrace is that it will significantly expand and enhance the F.M.
VNilkins Shelter, n historic structure built in 1938. Natural stone complements the historic shelter, and the
Moon Terrace p vides ~ lovely outdoor area in which to socialize.
